Mike Young, President/Partner

Mike Young has 50 years of professional experience specializing in various aspects of water treatment and distribution, wastewater treatment and collection, effluent reuse and delivery methods, hazardous materials and landfills. Mr. Young has extensive knowledge in the design, construction, operation and management of both water and wastewater facilities, development of capital improvement projects, management of municipal and private utilities. Mike is one of the founding partners working with the organization since 2004.

Gary Steinmetz, QA/QC, Partner

Gary Steinmetz has 60 years of experience in industrial, heavy commercial, and water and sewer works construction projects. He has been an estimator, superintendent and project manager during his professional career. His vast knowledge covers all phases and types of water and wastewater treatment plant construction, commercial and industrial facilities. Gary is a highly respected expert in the industry and brings valuable knowledge to each project. Gary is retired, but we still request his input and eye for detail on our projects. One of the founding partners, Gary has worked with Fann Environmental since its inception in 2004.

Paul Johnson, Director of Operations

Paul has over 30 years of professional experience in construction management and field operations. He oversees the essential field employees and their activities to ensure our projects meet the goal of exceptional quality work that exceeds our customers' expectations. Paul also serves as a project manager working closely with owners, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers to make sure that our projects stay on track. Paul maintains the company safety program working closely with employees and subcontractors to keep job sites in compliance and promoting a healthy safety culture. He joined Fann Environmental in 2019 after relocating from the upper midwest.

Jim Muylle, Chief Plant Operator and Operations Manager

Jim Muylle has over 40 years of experience working in the water and wastewater field as an Operations Manager. Mr. Muylle has extensive background in preparing both State and Federal reports, budgeting and tracking operating costs, and sampling, testing, and reporting for quality assurances. Jim is responsible for day-to-day operations and maintenance, monthly sample of retrieval, and monthly and annual reports for each plant currently being managed by Fann Environmental. Mr. Muylle has been with Fann Environmental since 2006.

Ryan Shy, Electrical-Controls Manager

Ryan Shy has 25 years of experience in the construction field. Ryan successfully completed the Arizona Business Management and AZ CR-11 Electrical Licensing Exam and quickly worked his way up from a laborer to Journeyman and administrative level positions. He has supervised both piping and electrical work as well as the work for subcontractors on Fann Environmental projects and coordinates with Arizona Public Service and local utilities to provide new electrical service to the facilities that FE constructs. Ryan consistently finalizes projects on time and within budget. Ryan joined Fann Environmental in 2018.

David "Bim" Syme, General Superintendent

Bim Syme has been working in the industry for over 40 years specializing in underground utilities, roadway construction, and project development. Before joining FE, Bim had taken part in over 300 public and private projects throughout Arizona, Utah, and Wyoming. Mr. Syme is responsible for overseeing the operations of active projects, developing and overseeing the crews, managing the materials and equipment needed to complete projects, and directing crews to keep projects within scope, time frame, and budget. Bim is well-respected within the construction community and has developed an extensive list of contacts in the industry and among related utilities. He joined Fann Environmental in 2019.

Robert Kinkade, Mechanical Superintendent

Robert Kinkade has 40 years of experience in the construction field working for small companies and owning and operating his own company for several years. Robert is extremely knowledgeable in the mechanical workings of water and wastewater facilities. He has extensive experience as a heavy equipment operator and supervising underground work and crews. He is well-adapted to moving from one job to the next, multitasking, and always willing to assist wherever he is needed. Robert began working with Fann Environmental in 2009 and quickly earned the respect and admiration of all those he worked with.

Steve Myers, Electrical Superintendent

Mr. Myers came to be a vital member of Fann Environmental's team after being a longtime subcontractor for FE. With 35 years in the business, he has experience in electrical and controls for water and wastewater systems and several other applications. He is available to troubleshoot issues with existing equipment and help in the planning and implementation of new equipment installations. Steve is very experienced in high voltage work and works directly with the power companies coordinating outages to replace transformers and service entrances. Steve joined Fann Environmental in 2023.

Troy Adams, Superintendent

Mr. Adams has over 30 years of experience in construction, equipment operation, pipelaying and pipefitting. He joined FE in October 2024 and quickly moved into a leadership role. Troy began his career as a laborer, equipment operator, pipefitter, and foreman working on projects that included installation of foundations, footings, rock walls, water and sewer lines, and other sitework. He then transitioned to the fire sprinkler industry where he installed steel and plastic piping for multi-story facilities and worked his way to a supervisory position. Troy's underground experience and pipefitting background have been an excellent complement to the work that Fann Environmental does.

Poppy Keegan, Executive Assistant

Poppy joined the Fann Environmental team in the spring of 2020. She assists in the preparation of bid documents and SOQs and issues subcontracts and purchase orders. Poppy ensures that the company is meeting our contractual obligations with project owners and maintaining compliance with governmental regulations. She is a primary Procore administrator tracking labor, specifications, drawings, submittals, Operations and Maintenance manuals, and other project documentation and assisting users with any technical issues they may have. Ms. Keegan is also responsible for Human Resources, payroll, and project billing.

Michelle Powskey, Accounts Payable/Administrative Assistant

Michelle joined Fann Environmental in 2023. A former elementary school teacher, Michelle's organization and interpersonal skills have helped her take on a pivotal role in the company. Her primary responsibilities include greeting visitors to our office and answering phones, accounts payable, accounts receivable, shipping and receiving, labor and equipment tracking, and operations and maintenance contract billing. Michelle is the go-to person for our superintendents and field crew and an indispensable member of the FE team.
